LASIK with IntraLase, a procedure in which the epithelium flap is made with a laser rather than a microkeratome, costs more than traditional LASIK. The price is higher because of the high costs of the system used in surgery. Using Wavefront technology combined with a traditional LASIK procedure increases the price by at least $100.
In short, the procedure is quite straightforward. Your doctor will prepare you and then will use a knife to remove a flap of the cornea. Since your cornea is not lying correctly which is what causes your vision to not be perfect, he needs to remove some of the stroma, or the layer of tissue directly under the cornea so that it will lay correctly. After he has accomplished this, he replaces the cornea (it remains attached during the whole procedure) and you heal. Of course, lasers of the utmost precision are used to do all of this work.
