Cosmetic surgery liposuction and medical tourism in India
India as a global medical tourism destination, it could capitalise on the low-cost, high-quality medical care available in the country. India, touted as one of the favorite destinations for information technology majors, is currently emerging as the chosen destination for medical or health tourism.
The Government of India, State tourism boards, travel agents, tour operators, hotel companies and private sector hospitals are exploring the medical tourism industry for tremendous opportunities. They are seeking to capitalise on the opportunities by combining the country’s popular leisure tourism with medical tourism.
Given below are some common cosmetic surgeries performed at some top Hospitals in India and other destinations in Asia.
Breast Surgery:
Various types of breast surgery and reconstruction and liposuction Breast reconstruction is considered if the breast has not developed, there has been extensive trauma, or most commonly, after mastectomy for breast carcinoma. Butt Implants. It’s a cultural phenomenon that’s moving northward. “Buttock implants are very popular in South America, where Brazilian women want to have very round, curvaceous buttocks,” Wells tells WebMD. “Breasts are big here, but in Brazil, it’s buttocks.” The implants have a more “solid” covering than breast implants because they must sustain weight, he says. “There’s been an increasing interest from the public, so surgeons want to know more about them.”

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) for protruding ears Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the external ear is often performed to repair cosmetic or defects resulting from injury. The most common procedure is otoplasty which is done to correct prominent (“dumbo”) ears in children. The goal of this type of surgery is to improve both the functional and cosmetic appearance of the ears. Frequently, psychological trauma is associated with such features.
Eyelids (Blepharoplasty) :
Got tired eyes or bags under the eyes? Then consider eyelid surgery. This procedure, called blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces bagginess from lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids. The procedure involves the removal of excess skin, muscle and underlying fatty tissue. While it is primarily a cosmetic procedure, blepharoplasty is also an effective method for improving sight in older patients whose sagging upper eyelids obstruct their vision.
Face lift :
A facelift is a surgical method that removes excess facial skin to make the face appear younger. However, the aging face not only loses skin elasticity and develops looser droopy skin, but also loses fat and muscle tone. Additional procedures which may be necessary to achieve the best results include: necklift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), liposuction, autologous fat injection, removal of buccal (cheek) fat pad, forehead lift, browlift, chemical or laser peel, and malar (cheek), submalar or chin implants.
Hair Replacement :
Today’s options for hair growth have gone through a major evolution since 1952 when hair transplantation surgery was first pioneered. Treatments have shifted from unnatural-looking transplants to sophisticated new drugs and improvements in hair transplant surgery, and cloning individual hair cells. David Orentreich, MD, a professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and others who specialize in the field of hair restoration say that the future looks even brighter than the present. Orentreich’s father Norman first pioneered hair transplantation surgery.
Laser Skin Resurfacing:
Laser resurfacing is a relatively new treatment for reducing facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes or acne scars. The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin. Laser skin resurfacing removes skin very precisely, layer by layer, resulting in fewer problems with hypopigmentation (lightening of skin). This popular procedure is known by several other names, including lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization. Liposuction (Lipoplasty) : Liposuction is an option to remove small bulges that won’t budge and to improve your body’s shape. The areas most commonly treated include the hips, abdomen, thighs and buttocks and face. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, only fat.

Reshaping or recontouring of the nose (Rhinoplasty):-
A rhinoplasty or nose job is a nose surgery procedure to reshape the bone, skin and cartilage of the nose. Rhinoplasty can be done for strictly cosmetic reasons, strictly medical reasons or at times combination of both. Rhinoplasty can handle a variety of medical and cosmetic problems, including:
Too large or too wide nostrils A nose size that is too large or too small Crookedness of the bridge of the nose Restricted breathing due to deformity or injury
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty):
Are sit-ups just not giving you the taut tummy you desire? If you’ve got a little too much flab or excess skin in your abdomen that won’t diminish with diet or exercise, you may want to consider an abdominoplasty, popularly referred to as a “tummy tuck.” This procedure flattens your abdomen by removing extra fat and skin, and tightening muscles in your abdominal wall.
Otoplasty – Ear Surgey:
Otoplasty/ear pinning is a procedure in which a plastic surgeon corrects such problems as oversized or protruding ears. Otoplasty ear surgery is frequently performed on children. Because the ears usually reach almost their full adult size and shape during early childhood. Otoplasty can be performed effectively and permanently as early as age 5-6. I found this ad on Craigslist and was completely blown away by it. Please let me know what you think. It HAS to be illegal in some way. This guy is looking for an Executive Secretary for his Lasik practice in NYC. It’s one thing to look for a great new employee and want your current ones to perform well but this guy is a bit over the top. He must have had a really bad day and you can tell from his post that he hates his employees. He says that in order to apply for the job, you MUST wear contacts or glasses and get a lasik procedure (this is a job requirement). What???? Is he for real??? Someone has to report this guy. So, if you have great vision, you can’t work for him? Is he nuts? I guess he’s not forcing you to work for him but with the job market the way it is now, if you are an experienced secretary that meets a lot of these requirements, is it legal for this guy NOT to hire you because you refuse un unnecessary medical procedure? Attorneys???? Anyone have any thoughts on this. I just had to share this with others.

Job Requirements (you must meet ALL of these to apply):
1. Graduate of a 4-year college, AND
2. 10 years experience of full-time work after graduating from college, AND
3. 5 years experience as a full-time receptionist or secretary, AND
4. 1 year of experience in a medical or spa or retail job, AND
5. you need to be wearing glasses and/or contacts and want to get laser vision correction, AND
6. computer literate, good with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, ACT!
Daily Tasks (my current secretaries make all of these mistakes on a daily basis—you should not):
1. Call ALL appointments to confirm them (they now call “most” of them)
2. Give me my highlighted schedule every night of the next day’s activities
3. Pull all charts and prep them TWO DAYS BEFORE the patients come in (again, they say they do this “most” of the time, but in need to be done all of the time)
4. Clear ALL medical insurances and check for referrals every time BEFORE patient comes in
5. Collect ALL copays and record ALL in BOTH the chart AND receipt book every time
6. Log in ALL payments received on the spreadsheet every time
7. Give patients a receipt of payments and have me sign the receipt book
8. Enter people’s FULL contact information in ACT! when they call / come in
9. Check demographic sheet patients fill out to make sure it is complete
10. do NOT purposely circumvent ACT! system by entering “.” instead of real information
11. Ask patients to spell their names, company name, and email address
12. Get the full name, phone #, date, time, and details of every message
13. Properly greet patients and offer them complimentary tea/coffee/water
14. Straighten out the waiting room at least once a day
15. Come out from behind the front desk / sit down next to “VIP” patients
16. Decrement # of referrals in the chart, and ask for new referral as gets to 0
17. Check expiration dates of insurance cards and referrals
18. Check charts to make sure patients actually paid for their LASEK before surgery
19. Tell me or other staff members in a timely fashion when problems arise
20. Take action to fix small problems so they don’t become a big problem
21. Properly communicate issues to the other staff at the daily morning meeting
22. Don’t check patients out too quickly and not double-check that they understand directions
23. Tell prospective patients about your own LASEK (which you’ll get for free) to get them excited!:)
24. Understand we are an elective surgery center, so you have to do marketing (e.g., get leads fr. patients)
25. Ask every 20/20 happy patient for leads (names of friends interested in getting lasered)
26. Notice which patients no-show for their postop. appointments and GET THEM IN!
