Recently, almost all eye problems can be dealt with LASIK surgery. And many people do have gained perfect vision and got rid of lenses after the surgery. In fact, laser is now being employed as scalpel in numerous number of eye surgeries. Here are some brief introductions about these surgeries.
Of course, the first one should be LASIK surgery, for many people have received this surgery and it sometimes equals laser eye surgery in many their minds. It refers to the surgery in which the surgeon will remove a part of the cornea. Eye problems like astigmatism, hyperopia, etc. can be effectively solved.
LASEK is another sort of eye surgery in which laser is employed. It is, to some extent, like LASIK, but different. It will remove less corneal tissue than LASIK. It is suitable for people with very thin corneas. It can assure the safety of the receiver.
Before the advancement of LASIK surgery, another procedure, called PRK, is used as assistant measure. PRK is suitable for people with minor refractive problems. During the procedure, the laser will be used to polish the cornea. This procedure can help the cornea recover itself some time later. Only after several months later can people enjoy the success of the surgery.
People with farsightedness and serious nearsightedness can receive anther kind of surgery, called Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty ( ALK). A cut will be made on the cornea and any material below it will be cleaned out.
Recently, the latest technology is being employed in the treatment of eye problems. Thus emerges a new method, LTK. Some common eye problems like astigmatism and farsightedness can be perfectly solved with it. It will not remove any corneal tissue, but will reshape the cornea with the heat generated by laser. Less risk will be caused with this method, but the eye problems may reoccur some time later.
