There is a risk involved with ANY surgery but when say “bad side effects,” that’s kind of tricky since one person’s description of “bad” is different than someone else’s. Not to mention, one person might say they had tremedous pain while another states they had no pain at all. In saying that however, I will tell you that there is usually more down time involved with PRK. The reason being is because the whole surface of the cornea is removed instead of just cutting a flap, like in the case of Lasik. So, for that reason, PRK post-ops usually take longer to heal and are usually more painful than Lasik. Your doctor can go over the pro’s and con’s of both and help in choosing which procedure is best for you.
