Why So Much Hate Against Proposed Islamic Center? -Facts

Hasn’t what the President and Mayor Bloomberg said enough for people to open their eyes and realize that we are not at war with Islam? This is the 21st century we are living in, and need to understand that 1.5 billion people don’t promote terrorism.

I, as a Christian, feel for young Muslim children around the world, and especially the United States, who have to turn on their TV and see that their Mosque is not welcome, and that their Holy Book will be burned. This is not the country I thought I was living in. This sort of maltreatment will obviously be the tool used by terrorist organizations to justify to these impressionable children that what terrorists do is right, even though it’s brutally despicable. This is a sad time for America when all Muslims are painted with the same brush as the extremists of their religion.

What’s even more sad, is that major political figures support this anti-Islamic rhetoric, and are even a part of such magniloquence. They are unknowing of the damage they do to Muslims in America, who moved here to live the “American Dream” like most other people. Instead these people feel unwanted, and even despised.

I would like to know why there is so much hate in America against Muslims. I wonder if there are any people out there like me who do not look at Muslims and see evil? Please feel free to e-mail me about this issue. I would really like to get into the minds of how people think. I am probably just another liberal university student with no wisdom, but my heart and mind strongly points me towards accepting all people, no matter who they are. Am I wrong?
r r, the Islamic Center that they are building there was actually proposed and planned prior to 9/11. And besides that, why should these Muslims have to be associated with terrorists? I understand the sensitivity, but undermining our Constitution and these group of innocent people’s right to practice their religion freely only degrades this nation in the long run.
com’on larry, you seem to forget that Muslim Americans also died in that horrific incident. Also, don’t forget that there are currently many Muslim Americans who serve in our military and risk their lives for our freedoms. Are their actions in vain?
kate112280, I appreciate your well reasoned response. I go to a very diverse University (I won’t say, because I don’t think YA! allows it), and I have Muslim, Jewish, and Christian friends, and all of them are Americans. I don’t consider my Muslim friends any less American because they love this country just as much as the rest of us. They lead normal lives, and aspire to become a great positive forces in this world, like the rest of us.
Traditional Girl, the thing is that I would agree with you if terrorists were the ones erecting a mosque there. However, this is not the case. Normal Americans are the ones doing so, but are unfortunately met with disgust. If we move their project, it will not be a victory for Christians or Muslims. It will be a victory for terrorists.

Probably because the people under the 9/11 attacks are Muslim

I and many New Yorkers/Americans have experience the tragedies of 9/11 and thus the mosque is a sensitive issue. I personally oppose the building of the mosque for these reasons

The location is simply too close
Many would argue ok, well how close is too close. Its common sense! You could literally throw a baseball from the mosque site to ground zero. I am in NO WAY saying all muslims are bad. They have a right to practice their religion. However, there is really no need to build a mosque in that location. It also seems they are trying to build it to make a point. One perhaps coincidence, is the fact when muslims conquer a location/land, they build a mosque over it. The Radical muslims who attacked us 9 years ago wished to conquer us. Now a mosque is being built at the site they preformed a serious blow to our country. Although this may be a coincidence, it is heartless of the mosque developers to not move the site. Trump offer to buy the site from them for the value PLUS 25%. The developers are being insensitive.

Why so much hate? Watch a documentary on 9/11. The bodies dropping from the sky, the unanswered cell phones. the suffocating deaths in the towers. this is an unprecedented tragedy in America. Why so much hate? Because of so much death. Bow your head….Remember.

No you are not wrong. I live in an area with one of the largest Muslim populations in the country, and I have worked in the school district with many of them. I also know a lot of the kids, and you know what they are just like you and I. I went to my daughters school on 9/11 because I was working there that day, I saw people looking at the Muslim parents with such hatred, they were never treated like that before it happened and it makes me very sad that all Muslims are now labeled terrorists. One of the couples that I know, he is a principal and she has a local talk show, always give me the biggest hug when I see them. I also saw many many Muslims crying just as hard as any of us on that tragic day.
Thank you for a wonderful post

EDIT: To the OP you sound like a very open-minded kind, intellegent young person, you remind me of my daughter, she also has friends of many faiths and many colors. Your parents raised you right :)

  5. Traditional Girl Says:

Hate is not the reaction I get from opponents. Dismay and disgust are more like it.

If Muslims were genuinely concerned with improved relations with Christians then deciding not to offend survivors of those murdered by Muslim extremists is a no brainer.

You obviously don’t know enough about what the radical Muslims want to do or refuse to see it. Everywhere they emigrate to, they take over. They are not tolerant of us but expect us to be tolerant of their religion.
The very idea they want to build this so-called Mosque at Ground Zero says it all. It is a victory for them. It is sickening Mayor Bloomberg wants this thing built there. He is just looking for votes. I don’t believe him for a second. I (& thousands others) understand that the radicals DO promote terrorism and death and they want anyone to die, who don’t believe in their false religion.
It is sad that all Muslims are painted this way, but the Imam planning to build here is not innocent in his endeavours. This is what he wants you to believe, in his soft spoken manner and if he was sensitive to the people of New York, he would have planned on building the mosque somewhere else.
I would rather err on the side of caution, than to let this monstrosity be built.
